Safety First! One mile at a time
December 22, 2011
Kevin McGraw has been driving a truck for Hudson Baylor since the late 1980's when he started as a part-time driver on the nightshift route from Newburgh to Long Island. In 1996, he started working full-time, driving the reverse vending machine and beverage center routes throughout the Hudson Valley.
For over twenty years, Mr. McGraw has been driving a Hudson Baylor truck and for those of us who know Kevin personally, we know he's been smiling the majority of that time.
At some point over the last six months, Kevin passed a significant milestone on his internal odometer. It's hard to know an exact date when it happened, but, if one was to take to the back of a napkin and do the math, the number you would come up with would be one million- one million miles behind the wheel.
This is a remarkable number. To put it in perspective, one million miles is the equivalent of driving round trip between New York and Los Angeles 180 times. You could make it back and forth to the moon about 2 ½ times-but you would have to stay there on the last leg of the trip. All of this sounds pretty impressive, but that isn't the whole story.
In all of that time and during all of those miles traveled, Kevin has never had a single accident nor has he ever received a traffic ticket.
From everyone at Hudson Baylor, a big congratulations to Kevin on accomplishing the number one goal over the course of every mile that he has traveled behind the wheel- Safety First! Superman, who would have to circumvent the globe approximately 40 times to reach that milestone, would be proud.
